MMA Gloves and Rash Guards
If you could chose one image to define or identify mixed martial arts, it would probably be the open fingered design of the MMA glove. MMA gloves are made so that competitors have padded protection for their knuckles, but little else coverage for the rest of the hand and fingers. This allows a fighter to use his hand to grip and grab an opponent, which is essential for ground fighting and submission attempts. There are many open palm finger gloves sold on the market, but most of them are not suited for regular MMA training or fighting. These gloves are made with an inferior build quality that won’t stand up well to regular abuse. To make this situation worse, typical MMA training puts strain on training that is not comparable to other sports, and the complexity of MMA gloves make them especially prone to being damaged. As such, look for official MMA gloves used by professional competitors for your best bet at acquiring the highest quality MMA equipment.
MMA Rash Guards
Rash guards are useful to wear during sweaty training sessions that involve abrasive contact to the skin. In other words, they are perfect for jujitsu, submission wrestling, and all forms of ground fighting.
Rash guards are typically made with synthetic fabrics. Nylon is excellent for repelling water, and is commonly used in the construction of rash guards. Unlike the heavy cotton gi’s worn by traditional jujitsu artists, rash guards will not hold sweat, and the wearer will not feel soaked or uncomfortably heavy during vigorous training. Rash guards are designed to hug the body, and are worn skintight. The benefits of wearing a rash guard is that it protects the skin from cuts and infections, and unlike loose clothing, cannot be grabbed by a competitor or become entangled during a match. Rash guards come in short or long sleeved fits, and can come emblazoned with official MMA sponsor logos and fighter’s designs. You can think of a rash guard as a second skin that will help protect you during regular training. They are an important piece of MMA equipment that many fighters would not train without.
